Growing up, Rubiya’s father’s physical disability and her parents’ limited access to education shaped daily life, but never her desire to learn. She went on to become the first girl from her village to attend college.
Early exposure to learning spaces beyond her school — computers, books, libraries, and activity-based learning — changed how Rubiya saw herself. These experiences built confidence, curiosity, and the ability to engage with others respectfully.
Today, Rubiya works full-time with Karnataka Health Promotion Trust, training parents, adolescent girls, and women on health awareness. For her, being the first girl to go to college carries responsibility — not just to move ahead herself, but to ensure many more can follow.
