“Go back. Sit down. Keep quiet.”
For years, this is how Shanthala began her class. After eight years as an Anganwadi teacher, it felt familiar — even necessary.
That changed when she began reflecting on how young children actually learn. She started speaking more gently, inviting children to sit in a circle where she could see every face. Lessons moved beyond the book to hands-on play with blocks, toys, and conversation.
The classroom grew calmer. Children listened, responded, and stayed engaged.
Shanthala now teaches with intention, knowing that early learning is built through connection, not control. For her, becoming a better teacher meant letting go of old habits — and beginning again.
